Former Super Bowl-winning coach Bill Parcells is on the verge of accepting a job with the Atlanta Falcons, according to the New York Daily News.
He said he would talk to Falcons officials later on Wednesday and that the post would include Parcells hiring a general manager and a new coach to replace Bobby Petrino, who quit last week after posting a 3-10 record.
“I think I will probably do it,” Parcells told the newspaper’s official Web site (www.nydailynews.com). “The job description is to be the football operations overseer.
Atlanta has had a nightmare season, with quarterback Michael Vick jailed on federal dog-fighting charges and first-year coach Petrino returning to college football at Arkansas.
Parcells, who coached the New York Giants to two Super Bowl titles and led the New England Patriots to a Super Bowl, has been working as a TV commentator since he left the Dallas Cowboys after the 2006 season.
